Five Components of Literacy
Core lessons combine explicit teaching of Phonics, Vocabulary, Language Comprehension, and Fluency - with your Letterland friends bringing the child-friendly fun!
Research-Based
Whole Group lessons teach core concepts with cumulative practice while lessons allow for differentiated and targeted support. Concepts are gradually released with daily opportunities for instruction in the style of "I do, We do, You do".

Learning with All the Senses
Unique teaching strategies, like Finger Tapping, Live Reading and Live Spelling, encourage students to learn whilst having fun at the same time. The Tricks & Strategies manual has a huge range of games and activities to provide variation, engage students, and enhance your teaching.
Formative Assessment
End of section assessments provide teachers with the data to evaluate student mastery and to inform instructional decisions. Ongoing progress monitoring informs whole group pacing and small group instruction to give support to students that need it

Reviewing Phonics & Phonological
Awareness Skills

Make sure all your students have a firm foundation in learning with Review Unit A, which includes an 'Ears Ready' phonological awareness strand to review key skills taught in Kindergarten and Grade One. The Unit also reviews the a-z letter shapes and sounds to ensure all students are ready to start on their Grade Two learning journey.

Word Analysis

‘Word Detectives’ provides fully decodable text. With modeled teaching and the gradual release method of "I do, We do, You do", your students will quickly learn how to analyze words for phonic structures and word structure (syllable types).

High Frequency &
Tricky Words

Several High-Frequency/Tricky Words are introduced in each Unit. New Tricky Words are incorporated into the Unit Stories and Word Detective sentences so students have immediate practice reading the word both in isolation and in context.

Decodable Reading

There’s more decodable reading support with 45 Unit Stories and Phonics Readers.

Embedded Instruction

Quick Coding, Syllable Type and Syllable Division instruction throughout.
