Consonant Blends

Students apply the sounds and the blending/segmenting techniques they learnt in the Word Building section to read and spell words with consonant blends that consist of four phonemes. They continue primarily using short vowel sounds to consolidate this essential knowledge and extend their reading to longer and more complex stories with fluency and comprehension.

Long Vowels

Students learn more about long vowels and their spelling patterns, allowing them to decode thousands of new words. More complex suffixes are introduced. Reading is further extended with interesting stories.

Students learn new sounds and new spelling patterns that make more words accessible. In addition, they learn more Tricky Words and build fluency and comprehension by reading more challenging stories.
